I have a Harbor Freight 42976 12 speed mill/drill machine, and I have never been able to set the chuck/spindle travel limit to control the depth of drilling or milling. It seems to work over a very short range of 1/2 inch or so, but beyond that it slips and keeps the spindle from retracting fully, and it makes the movement stiff.
