To investigate the sulfidization–flotation behavior of malachite, batch flotation experiments were conducted in a 50 mL Hallimond tube using 5 mL/L nitrogen gas as flotation gas. In a flotation test, a 0.5 g powder sample and deionized water were placed in a beaker, which then was stirred for 1 min with a mechanical stirrer.
When the pH is higher than 10, numerous hydroxide anions exist in the pulp, which can competitively adsorb with xanthate anions on the malachite surface, thus decreasing the flotation recovery of malachite. Similar to the flotation results of malachite, chrysocolla and cuprite show good floatability at pH 9 and 9.5, respectively [91], [92].
At pH 6.50, with 8 mg/L SDA, effectively recovering malachite from quartz was achieved by reverse flotation, in which 92.71% of malachite was recovered and 91.91% of quartz was removed, coupled ...

The micro-flotation test results showed that 5-NSA produced high recovery of malachite at pH 9.0–10.0, while showing lower collecting power to calcite or quartz. The contact angle analysis results indicated that the hydrophobicity of malachite surface was promoted after the adsorption of 5-NSA.
Sulfidization followed by xanthate flotation is an effective technique to recover copper oxide minerals. However, the sulfidization mechanism of malachite has not been determined. In this work, the sulfidization mechanism was investigated by microflotation, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), …
For the single-mineral flotation test, malachite (2 g) and deionized water at the required concentration for the test were placed in the cell. The flotation test of real ore contained these two minerals further confirmed that the malachite could be separated from calcite using PX as the collector. The mechanism and characterization analysis show that the selective substitution reaction between xanthate ions and OH ions on the malachite surface could generate hydrophobic substances of ...
At the Na 2 S concentration of 5 × 10 −4 M recommended by the flotation test, the adsorption density of S species on the TEA-modified malachite surfaces was approximately 0.118 mmol/m 2, which was about 13.46 % higher than that on the unmodified malachite (approximately 0.104 mmol/m 2). The results also provided evidence that TEA ...

An XFGII flotation machine (with a 40 mL microflotation cell) was used for the microflotation tests. For each flotation test, a 2 g malachite sample with a particle-size range of 38–74 µm was used. First, freshly prepared sodium sulfide (Na 2 S) solution was used as a sulfidizing agent, and the sulfidization time was 5 min. In the process ...
Fig. 1 (c) and Fig. 1 (d) compares the results of sulfidization flotation of malachite with and without ferrous ions, in which the dosages of the collector (NaBX) was variable, ferrous ions and sodium sulfide concentrations were controlled at 1 × 10 −3 mol/L, and the pH range during sulfidization was consistent with the flotation test above. The concentration of the …
Ammonium ions have positive effects on the sulfidization flotation of malachite; however, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood.
