The present invention relates to novel processes for recovering iron values from the bauxite residue. It comprises drying the red mud either directly or after neutralizing or after water washing. The bauxite residue was treated with iron nanoparticles of varying the size from 100- 1000 nm, heating in muffle furnace or inductive furnace at the temperature 700-800 oC.
Red mud is an industrial residue generated during the Bayer process of alumina production (Jones and Haynes 2011).For each ton of alumina, approximately 1–1.5 metric tons of red mud are produced (Kumar et al. 2006).About 140 million tons of bauxite residue are generated every year, which are normally placed in huge tailing ponds in contact with the …

This practice not only helps in reuse of the waste material but also creates a cleaner and greener environment. This study aims to focus on strength aspects of Self-compacting concrete (SCC) which has been prepared by partially replacing cementitiousmaterial by red mud (RM) and in the same mix, partially replacing sand by Iron Ore Tailings(IOT).
A further study on the recovery of iron from red mud by carbothermal reduction demonstrated that the iron content of red mud could be effectively metallized by employing a …
A colleague suggested the duo try the process with red mud. It wasn't a sure thing, because the chemistry of red mud is much more complex than iron ore. But after melting 15 grams of the mud inside a furnace for about 10 minutes, the researchers found pearl-size spheres of nearly pure iron. "I was quite surprised," Souza Filho says.

Bauxite residue, or red mud, is a solid waste produced from the alumina refining of bauxite ore. Red mud is mostly collected from the Bayer process which uses sodium hydroxide to dissolve the aluminium silicate. ... One of the issues with iron recovery from red mud is the complex structure of the iron mixing with other components, therefore ...
The red mud iron concentrate could be used as raw material for ironmaking after it is mixed with high TFe grade iron concentrate and meets certain requirements, and RM sand …
Red mud is a secondary resource which contains many kinds of minerals. Main chemical compositions contained in red mud are Fe 2 O 3, Al 2 O 3, SiO 2, TiO 2, CaO, Na 2 O and K 2 O which account for more than 75%. In addition, a small amount of rare metals such as Ga, Ge, Sc, etc. also exist in red mud [].Simultaneously maximize the value of recovery and …
Red mud is a polymetallic waste generated during Bayer's process of alumina production. High alkalinity (pH > 11), multiple elements, and micron-sized particles make red mud recycling energy-intensive and challenging. The following work presents a hydrometallurgical flowsheet for separation of different red mud elements and recovery of high purity Fe (II) …

Red mud is a highly alkaline solid waste discharged in the alumina production process. Because of its large amount of discharge and high alkalinity, it is mostly stored in dams, occupying a large number of land resources and posing a great safety hazard to the ecological environment. The large-scale consumption of red mud is a global technical problem. Different …

This work evaluated the mechanical strength, environmental stability performance, and microstructure of red mud-iron tailing based alkali-activated mortar (AAM) when iron tailing was blended in two ways (as aggregate or mineral admixture) with two kinds of red mud (sintering-process or Bayer-process).The work revealed that the best performance was for the …
The waste generated from alumina refining is collectively known as red mud due to its color. For low-grade bauxite ores, the low aluminium to silica (Al/Si) ratio makes Bayer process ineffective and therefore a sintering process is frequently used instead for alumina refining (Tian et al., 2016).Sintering process for alumina production usually involves heating a bauxite-lime …
